The World AFTER Covid-19

These days, it’s not difficult to find videos and articles written on how “experts” imagine the world after Covid-19; whether the topics are finance, travel, or health, just to name a few.

I bet I’m not the only one sick by hearing the opinions of infectologists and health officials!

It is my opinion that most of the medical profession, as was as many politicians, have failed miserably since the pandemic began to communicate the most important message to the population: eat healthy and get fit in order to avoid getting sick! Have you heard this from a doctor or infectologist recently? I bet not.

Our immune system’s vital role is to defend our bodies against disease by fighting infection; hence it is imperative we should take great care of it. You hear this often from me (a DJ), and from Bill Maher (a comedian) but this message is not endorsed by the so-called health “experts”; whose main job is to look after the health of the population…or is it?

The reason that the “eat healthy to be healthy” message doesn’t arrive from those quarters is because this information may offend their sponsors: Coca Cola, Mac Donald’s, and the Pharmaceutical industry, whose profit motives and ultimate interests matters far more than whether you live or die!

I mean… I don’t want to sound too negative, but can our world get any more awful than this? Not only are we poisoning ourselves with deadly drugs and junk food, but we are also destroying the very environment and bio diversity we need to protect in order to preserve life.

Covid-19 2020

If you look at images of the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918, you see people wearing mandatory face masks, practicing social-distancing, and frequent handwashing; all very much in line with the same measures being imposed by governments all around the world in 2020, which makes one wonder: has medicine made any significant progress in the last 100 years in order to improve the collective health of the population? Not much by the look of things, if you ask me, considering the billions upon billions of dollars spent every year on developing new drugs and other medical “research”.

Aldous Huxley once wrote, “Medical science has made such tremendous progress that there is hardly a healthy human left.” I completely agree.

I believe that instead of listening to so many doctors and “chief scientific advisers” as they are called, we should pay more attention to other folks with a slightly different perspective: historians!

The important lesson from history we need to embrace right now is that it is perfectly possible that, despite the endeavours of modern scientists, there won’t be an effective solution for Covid-19, just like there is no cure for HIV and many other diseases.

In the past, diseases like coronavirus have come along, wreaked havoc, and then become something that we learned to live with. We might be able to manage Covid-19 symptoms, but never fully eradicate the disease. It could become a permanent feature in our lives, just like influenza has.

So, wouldn’t be more appropriate to talk about a world “WITH” Covid-19, instead of “after”?

Disasters happen and are never pleasant. I do feel for all those people who have lost loved ones to this terrible disease.

On a more positive note, this pandemic should serve as a wake up call to us that we need to change as a society and do things differently.

We need to concentrate our efforts on tackling the real cause of illness: diet and lifestyle, and learn how to treat the Earth and the rest of animals that live in it, in a way that is sustainable for all of us.

In all fairness, I have heard a few doctors agreeing with my message of eating healthy to reduce the risk of infection. In an article published by the BBC, back in March: “People should prepare to fight coronavirus like they would prepare for surgery, by staying fit and healthy,” medics said.

By staying fit and healthy, you will not only be protecting yourself against coronavirus and new pandemics that may come in the future; like SARS, MERS, swine flu, and the Zika virus, which happened not long ago, but also avoiding and preventing even more serious diseases, like cancers, heart diseases, and so many others.

Stay empowered, stay healthy!

  2. So well written Ariel, I enjoyed this article which is spot on. I have been thinking the same things, but often cannot put it in words, you said it like it is, we are not hearing one iota of keeping up good health, and never even mention that we must eat fruit to consume enough Vitamin C to fight viruses. Thank you again for making me feel I am not the only one who is thinking along these lines.
