My memories are still as vivid as if they happened yesterday.
My health started to deteriorate by the turn of the millennium in various ways, due in part to the exhaustive lifestyle of being an international DJ.
Being on the road, playing gigs, for over a decade, and visiting over 40 countries, started taking its toll on my body.
I started to gain weight and began to feel run down with numerous symptoms of ill health.
One of the most strange and bizarre feelings I felt during those years was a prickling and tingling sensation in both my legs.
The weakness I felt through the muscles of my legs got so bad that at one point that it made standing up very difficult.
It didn’t feel good, and I was concerned with what was causing the problem.
I also started to lose balance and coordination and felt dizzy, especially when up at a height.
Years went by, and I thought the situation would improve, but it didn’t. By 2003, and whilst living in Camden Town in London, I started experiencing what I can only describe as excruciatingly painful electric shocks that went from my waist right down my legs to my feet.
It was a burning, sharp pain that really freaked me out.
Soon after, on one my trips to Argentina, I went to see a specialist doctor who sent me for a blood test, brain scan, and for a nerve conductivity test.
This was when I was diagnosed with moderately severe Peripheral Neuropathy.

I was soon advised to visit a Rheumatologist who also confirmed the disease and said it was a slow progressing illness and there was nothing I could do, other than taking medicine.
I was prescribed the drugs Lyrica and Endep but I decided to wait and put off taking the medicine until I returned to the UK.
At the same time, I noticed it was becoming increasingly more difficult to chew certain foods, especially meat. And just to remind you, the year was 2004 and I was eating the standard western diet.
As I began to feel intense pains in my mouth, I visited a dentist who told me I had gum disease and I needed to stop smoking.
This was a pivotal moment in my life because giving up smoking meant a change of lifestyle of sorts, and it required an extra effort from me. I had been smoking for 15 years and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.
Knowing what I was going through, a friend suggested that I read the book, Allen Carr’s Easy Way To Stop Smoking.
While reading this book, I became very aware of, and very curious about the approaches and philosophies employed by Allen Carr.
This interest led me to read further books on natural health which eventually led me to the discovery of a science by the name of Natural Hygiene, which, by the way, is the original science behind the raw food diet.
My interest was such that over the following 6 years, I put my DJ career on hold and spent nearly all my time studying and researching biology and other health sciences aside from Hygiene that included Chemistry, Human Physiology, Psychology and the history of Medicine.
Naturally as I was learning I started incorporating all these changes into my diet.
I soon discovered that in the same way you can overcome and complete eliminate type 2 diabetes by changing your diet; you can also overcome Neuropathy.
Four months into my new raw vegan diet, all my symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy were soon receding. I stopped feeling those electric shock pains, and my balance and coordination was fully restored.
My new medical tests and analyses came back normal and I was free from the disease.

The lesson learned is that you can overcome most illnesses when you address the root cause of disease, which in most cases is your diet and lifestyle.
There is no need for drugs or treatment. It’s that simple.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It is an encouragement to those of us on the road less traveled of health through natural living. It doesn’t matter so much what the diagnose, the cure is the same. Wishing you health and happiness.
Absolutely. Thanks Janis. It is my mission to help others get healthier. 🙂
I look forward to your emails and enjoy reading them a lot. I’m attracted to the raw vegan lifestyle but the biggest obstacle has been that I have dentures and it’s hard to chew many raw foods. When it comes to raw I mostly end up doing soups and smoothies.
Thanks for your comment Gail. I’ll cover some of your concerns in future emails. Definitely. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this you are truly an inspiration

Changed my diet to low fat raw foods, learnt natural health, sleep well, exercise, quit consuming stimulants (“meat”, drugs, smoking, etc.), quit processed foods and some other stuff. I have written a program Health For Life that may help. Best wishes, Ariel
Awesome Ariel, So cool to read how you helped your mum! Came across this page researching diabetes neuropothy. I am recently diagnosed diabetic. I switched straight onto a mostly raw food diet when I left hospital a month ago. I am following a low fat high carb diet as inspired by dr Douglas grahams book.
But I have developed tingling in my hands and feet. Guess its early days on this diet so shall just plod on! Your story is very inspiring. You managed to reverse severe problems! So I am sure I can cure this in due course.
Thank you Ariel what an awesome man you are for sharing your success story……. I am a total fan of yours…… Is the nerve damage still gone if you eat cooked foods or do you have to eat raw foods for the rest of your life or your pain comes back………. Raw is the best lifestyle keeps you young forever Best of luck
Hi Ariel I was wondering if you do consultations I need guidance and off would be great if I can talk to you….. Bye the way your mom is beautiful youthful and looks so happy All the best
Hi Ariel,
My T2 diabetes was diagnosed in 1995. Since then, Ive developed many problems, including neuropathy and heart attack. I’m sixty four, this year. Is it to late for me to benefit from a plant-based diet? I am so scared. You are an inspiration. Well done, and thank you. Please, please reply.
All the best, Hayley
Hi Hayley. It’s never too late. You are way too young still 🙂 My mother managed to beat cancer being older than you. She started her plant based diet at 72 and still going strong (and cancer free) at 81. x
I have been following a vegan diet for nearly three weeks. Does it have to be raw? How long should I wait before seeing an improvement?
Thanks,
Helen
Hi Ariel, I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer twice. First in beginning of 2017 and again beginning of 2018. My oncology surgeon said it’s very rare for women to have it in both breasts. On top of that I also have hypothyroidism so weight managment has been very challenging. I’m currently in the stages of the second surgery recovery. I’ve read your article on how your mom beat cancer by incorporating raw vegan diet. I would love to be in contact with you and get started with this diet and beat this disease as well. Thank you and God bless. Kim
God bless you and thank you sooo much for sharing your story!!. I really needed to read it. I’ve been living with the illness for the last 2 years from work and it’s recently gotten worse with anxiety. I thought I was the only one that considered it to resemble electric shocks. You get me!. ?? I became vegan a month ago; so I will definitely incorporate the raw vegan diet as of now. Pray a fast recovery!.
What a blessing to discover your successful story in conquering the root of illness elimination. We hear it all the time “you are what you eat”but it does not sink in until we fall into diseases. Congradulations on your healthy u-turn. I prayed and God answered. Here I am ready to plunge into your path. I have PN going on 3 years now with no answers or interventions except the awaiting time doctors give me for the symptoms to surface so they can label me with a conclusive autoimmune. In the meantime, my numbness is progressing head to toe on both sides of my body. It starts with a sharp pain zap and then at a later time a warm sensation. Finally a lengthy vibration and the area goes numb. It is progressing rapidly by the week.
Your testimony is most inspirational.
It gives hope to everyone that through a raw vegan diet anyone can receive healing from sicknesses and diseases.
Thank you for sharing your life story with us.
Just reach your story and inspired. Am going through to same right now burning feet unbalanced. The worst thing is I go to the doctor they couldn’t tell me the problem. I have to do research and find its neuropathy. No take B supleme9
Hi! So excited to share that I too reversed my peripheral neuropathy with a veg based vegan diet. I ate 2 raw meals a day! Mine was from antibiotic fluoquinolone toxicity. I’m a medical doctor and I can’t believe this is not taught in bed school. Life saving nutrition! Keep spreading the word and I will too!
I am so pleased about you results. Best wishes. 🙂
Hello Kim, how long did it take for you to get relief?
